Kat Rito Is Panelist and Mentor at Louisiana Startup Prize: Focus on Health Entrepreneurial Competition
Kat Rito, WKD attorney, is serving as a mentor and roundtable chair at the Louisiana Startup Prize: Focus on Health Entrepreneurial Competition events. She’s discussing risks and pitfalls for healthcare entities and business formation from the legal perspective.
The multi-pronged program includes an online component in May for all participants and an in-person program in late June for finalists. The theme explores innovation across industries and disciplines in the health sector to spur developments that will change the world. The competition connects entrepreneurs with mentors and investors who can help grow their health-related businesses.
Kat chaired two roundtable sessions this past Saturday. In her session “Contracts 101, or Read the Fine Print,” she led a discussion and shared insights and practical guidance on drafting, negotiating, and executing contracts effectively. In “Your Legal Wellness Check: Mitigating Risk,” participants examined legal risks facing health startups, including regulatory compliance, patient and data privacy, liability concerns, employment law and contractual obligations, and Kat walked them through legal considerations that can make or break a startup's success.
Kat shares, “There are so many entrepreneurs with great ideas to revolutionize the provision of medical care. It’s a privilege to use my experience in litigation and risk management to share proactive business practices that might increase a startup’s chance of long-term success.”
