Sheryl D. Story, Special Counsel, Workers’ Compensation Section Head

Sheryl heads the firm’s workers’ compensation section, while also handling complex bodily injury matters, including traumatic brain injury cases. Prior to joining WKD, Sheryl was Managing Director and Litigation Counsel for CNA Insurance Companies in-house counsel staff in New Orleans for 22 years. She is an experienced trial attorney with over three decades of background in the insurance industry, mostly as defense counsel, but also as an underwriter.

In the area of construction claims, Sheryl has defended large construction defect cases and design professionals, as well as acted as coverage counsel in disputes relating to insureds and additional insureds.

Over her more than 35-year career, Sheryl has handled a wide range of cases, including defending excess coverage on high exposure complex cases, along with general liability, premises liability, automobile liability, state and federal workers’ compensation, and medical and accounting professional liability matters. A strong advocate for her clients, she institutes an aggressive, cost-efficient, results-driven approach to their defense.

In her work for CNA, Sheryl handled her own caseload as well as supervised up to 18 attorneys over the years in a wide range of defense matters. In addition, she developed and implemented a uniform procedure for CNA to respond to subpoenas nationwide. She also has created and led training sessions on Louisiana law for claim departments and insured clients.
