Kathy Tate v. Louisiana State Board of Supervisors/State of Louisiana, et al

In the 24th Judicial District Court for the Parish of Jefferson, before the Honorable Nancy Miller, on November 27— December 2, 2023, Kat Rito and Peter Wanek defended a physician (rheumatologist) in a medical malpractice claim filed by a patient who claimed she suffered complete blindness in one eye and diminished sight in the other eye, as a result of a misdiagnosis and failure to treat the plaintiff’s alleged autoimmune condition and bacterial infection, and that as a result, she suffered blindness. In closing, the plaintiff asked the jury to award approximately $5 million. The jury deliberated for approximately 30 minutes and rendered a defense verdict in favor of the defendants.
